As a demonstration of the fact that science knows neither crisis nor does it prevent us from looking at an eco-sustainable future, the “smart plug” to recharge bikes and mopeds on the street lands on the market. The idea comes from a company from Prato that has also filed the patent.
It is a system that, through a chip inserted in the plug, allows the user to be identified when he requests the supply of electricity. According to Generale Sistemi – the Galciana-based company that designed the equipment – the “In-socket” technology aims to promote electric mobility through an intelligent charging system.
It works like this: by inserting the plug into the socket, a reader identifies the enabled user by means of a code stored inside and, only in the presence of authorization, the power supply is activated. In practice, the socket remains without voltage until it recognizes the owner. “This – explains the administrator of Generale Sistemi Adolfo Deltodesco – allows on the one hand to manage the power supply safely and on the other, to charge the service to those who use it, thanks to a meter that calculates the amount of electricity provided, without therefore burdening the costs of the Municipality if it decides to set up a city circuit with recharging stations for electric vehicles ».
It is one of the first examples of companies in the district to have invested in the green economy, an expanding sector that does not yet seem to arouse too many public interests even though there is a lot of talk about it. «There are innovative companies that invest and get busy – observes the entrepreneur – but they almost never find the attention that the territory should show in the face of a local economic development plan. Not to mention the business risk chapter: in Prato no one invests capital in development projects, this city is dead, strangled by real estate speculation and loan sharking by banks ».

The entrepreneur Deltodesco is a reality of only 4 employees, a team of engineers and technicians specialized in computer science, who invested about 200 thousand euros in this idea. «Creating jobs in this moment is difficult – adds the company administrator – however being an innovative manager does not reward. If it goes on like this, I’m ready to go to Malaysia, Florida or Spain: these countries have shown interest in my system and I have received very interesting job offers ».
Investing in it is worthwhile, given that one of the main advantages of an electric vehicle is, in addition to the lower impact on the environment, the savings: it is calculated that the reduction in travel costs is 90% (an electric recharge for 30km has a cost of 0 , 20 cents against the 2 euros of fuel required for the same journey). “The electric vehicle such as the bicycle is ideal for short-range travel – says Deltodesco – considering that a recharge has an autonomy of 70 km, with a few cents you can easily cross the whole province”.
To promote sustainable mobility it would be necessary to create a network of recharging points distributed in strategic areas of the city: the station, near the parks, at the ends of a cycle path ». Following an interest from the Municipality of Campi, this new technology will be inaugurated for the first time on May 17th at the I Gigli shopping center. An agreement is also being defined with Sesto Fiorentino for the opening of a circuit of 8 columns with two sockets each, for a total of 16 charging stations located throughout the city.
