It will be Scame Parre to charge the electric vehicles that will carry heads of state and delegations around the G8 village. Internal mobility in the meeting of the “Big Eight” in Abruzzo next week will in fact be ensured by 35 Gem electric vehicles (Global Electric Motorcars) of the now Fiat-Chrysler group distributed by Geo Europa and equipped with the Libera plug of the Bergamo-based Scame Parre for the connection of the accumulators that power electric vehicles to the charging stations. The presence of electric vehicles at the G8 and consistent with the theme of “eco-compatible mobility” and more generally with the theme of climate change, will be addressed in a special section of the summit. But beyond the symbolic aspect, the question also begins to take on economic significance.

The products for recharging electric vehicles are currently a minimal part in the catalog of Scame Parre, which operates in the broader sector of components and systems for electrical systems for civil, tertiary and industrial use (77 million total turnover in 2007 of the group). Moreover, the Parre-based company was one of the forerunners in this sector, having entered it for about ten years, when it developed the Libera sockets, equipped with pilot contact and built in compliance with CEI-Cives standards, which represent the the only standard of connectors currently produced in Italy that meets the safety features required for charging electric vehicles. The recharging activity to be carried out safely, avoiding risks for the devices, but also for people, requires specific products.

In fact, it is necessary to check, for example, that no overheating or dispersions occur in the connection. The base is the “pilot contact” which, thanks to an additional pole, checks the continuity of the protective conductor during charging. Indeed, when the Libera series was conceived, the electric vehicle recharging market was rather small, but gradually over the years the business has expanded – still purresting a “niche” – in parallel with the greater attention paid to the electric vehicle sector, considered among the most promising for the automotive industry. So much so that the supply front for original equipment is now opening for Scame Parre.

The American multinational Vectrix, for example, has been supplied by the subsidiary of the group in Poland with plugs installed as original equipment in what is considered the first high-performance electric scooter and which is assembled in Wroclaw. The Bergamo-based company also signals interest from other manufacturers, for a sector that is in fact starting to emerge from the pioneering phase, and advanced contacts have been initiated for collaboration with an Italian company, again for original equipment. In the meantime, Scame Parre has expanded the range of connection products for charging electric vehicles, now consisting of mobile and fixed or flush-mounted plugs and sockets and adapters for domestic use. Added to this are the power supply “squares” for the recharging stations: in the Lipari Islands alone, for example, about a hundred have been installed.
And we are already moving towards new projects.
Thanks to the collaboration with Generale Sistemi Srl, a Tuscan company specialized in radiofrequency identification systems, partner in the “In-socket” project, the Libera plug by Scame has also become “intelligent” and allows the vehicle to be identified in the charging stations, both both public and domestic.
