From the Prato-based company, an intelligent socket that responds to new mobility needs
New perspectives are opening up in the world of parking and – more generally – of mobility.
Electrifying perspectives, we could say, with a play on words, which look at a reality increasingly oriented towards electric vehicles as an ecological alternative to those running on petrol and diesel; to car parks that are increasingly organized as real “service centers” for motorists; to increasingly liveable streets, finally cleared of parked cars as is already the case in many cities in Northern Europe.
And, more generally, to a reality in which parking is managed in an intelligent and prudent way.
TagItalia, a division of the company Generale Sistemi which since 1994 has been offering logistics consultancy and solutions with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, and which boasts partnerships with giants of the caliber of Skidata and Scheidt and Bachmann, has in its pocket a product that looks straight to the future and which has all the credentials to establish itself as a key element of intelligent parking management: this is In – Presa, the first “plug and pay” automatic electricity distributor controlled via the web and integrated with a free pass system.
“The project – explains Adolfo Deltodesco, CEO and marketing manager of Generale Sistemi, which is based near Prato – was born 4 years ago, following a critical analysis suggested to us by the Municipality of Florence, in which there are 150 charging stations for electric vehicles. An expensive, cumbersome and dangerous presence (think of the fact that the sockets are at child height and that they are not minimally controlled), as well as unsafe for the systems themselves, constantly exposed to bad weather and vandalism “

Hence the idea of creating charging structures that can be integrated with access control systems increasingly used in modern car parks, where it is possible to enter and exit freely, with the immediate opening of the barriers to reading the authorized tag; the billing linked to the parking periods is detected by the gate controller and then managed centrally, with a deduction from a prepaid amount or a specially granted user credit.
The intuition is sealed by the filing of two identification patents for the plug connected to the socket, which ensures that the socket is immediately recognizable and that the charge for the recharge is added to the cost of parking.
The recharging structures, called IN-PRESA, can therefore be installed in any car park, even unattended; and their operation is very simple. So let’s see it, step by step, highlighting all its advantages; the electric vehicle accesses the car park without having to collect any ticket thanks to the freePass control, which allows the gate to open automatically; once parked, the plug identifies the car and the electric charging is activated instantly; Even in this case, the exit takes place without the need to cross any ticket: the gates open automatically thanks to the freePass control, and the parking and recharging costs are managed by centralized control servers, able to manage a large number of users free to move within a network of affiliated car parks.
Simple, quick and functional both for the motorist and for the managers, and above all in line with the new perspectives that are opening up in the world of parking. “The advent of the electric vehicle is upsetting and will increasingly overturn the old way of distributors placed on the road”, observes Deltodesco, highlighting the already anachronistic character of this type of device.
“First of all – he continues – the car park in the structure accommodates cars for even long periods of parking, an ideal time space to recharge the vehicle. Not only that: the IN-PRESA system ensures a safe increase in parking revenues, not only for the top-up charge that is added to the charge for parking, but also for the increase in customers, attracted by this new possibility, that would happen. The advantage for public administrations deriving from a net reduction in costs should not be overlooked: the recharging point in a parking structure costs one third of the column on the street, has no maintenance costs and allows for a profit margin. from the service offered “. Not only that: access control and charging systems for electric vehicles in urban parking areas can be financed through funds destined for electric mobility projects in urban areas; and they can prove invaluable in the so-called interchange parking lots, where those entering the city center could be offered to leave their “road catamarans” there to switch to “green” rental cars. “
It seems almost unbelievable that starting from a simple, albeit intelligent, grasp, similar scenarios can open up; scenarios that, as far as the automotive sector is concerned, still appear at an embryonic stage, but which are certainly already much more concrete if we look at the success of electric bicycles: just think that only in the provinces of Trento and Bolzano can they be counted almost 50,000 and over 300 on the island of Procida.
Generale Sistemi has obviously immediately grasped the potential of this market, understanding, also in this case, that the spread of electric bikes, an ideal means of transport, for convenience and eco-sustainability, for short-haul travel, is closely linked to the offer. of adequate facilities, able to store and protect them from theft and to recharge them easily.
Hence the BikePark & Charge project, which is also based on the concept of an intelligent socket capable of managing automatic identification (User card) in the docking and simultaneous charging of the vehicle. The system is also easily adaptable to any type of structure (one above all, the shelter with photovoltaic roof) and this is a further advantage that has already established Generale Sistemi as the market leader in this area.
