ABB, a leading group in energy and automation technologies, has installed the first charging island for electric vehicles for corporate use at its headquarters in Sesto San Giovanni.
“The initiative is part of a broader project aimed at creating a fleet of electric vehicles powered by a network of recharging systems located at some of the Group’s offices in Italy to allow the daily movements of service cars using normal or rapid recharges according to the needs of the case ”declared Barbara Frei, Country Manager and CEO of ABB Italy. “With these solutions, combining innovation and environmental sustainability, we renew our commitment to Smart City projects, confirming once again the active role played in this area in our country up to now. Also at an international level ABB is operating in the e-mobility sector both through strategic partnerships for the construction of charging infrastructures in Europe (Austria and Estonia), and with collaborations in the battery and energy storage sectors “adds Frei .
The first complete island, which combines the two charging systems in AC and DC, located at the gates of the Milanese city, arrives one month after the introduction of area C in Milan, tuning in to the choices of the city administration, which allows the free circulation of zero-emission vehicles, to demonstrate that sustainable mobility based on the electric car is already possible today.

ABB is active on the e-mobility front with a range of products that include:
- an alternating current (AC) wall system, designed for overnight charging in the garage;
- an alternating current (AC) column that allows a complete recharge of the car with times ranging from four to six hours;
- a direct current (DC) column that allows the vehicle to be quickly recharged in less than 30 minutes;
- a complete range of components for the construction of infrastructures for electric charging both in AC and DC.
A first ultra-fast charging point was installed in October last year at the Peugeot branch in Via Gallarate, followed by a similar application at the Porto Antico in Genoa during the Eurocities 2011 event last November.
ABB (www.abb.it) is a leader in energy and automation technologies that allow utilities and industries to improve their performance while reducing their environmental impact. ABB Group companies employ approximately 135,000 employees in over 100 countries.
